British Branch Candidate Conditions and Costs (2008-2009)
- Registration and re-registration
To register (or re-register) as a candidate with the British branch of Search Associates, there is no registration fee.
(Please note that the British branch differs from all other branches of Search Associates in this respect, because of the requirements of UK law.)
Once you have submitted your online application and the majority of your confidential references have reached David Cope, he will carefully review all the information. If all your supporting documentation is in good order and he believes you are a competitive candidate for international school placement, he will then confirm your registration.
As a registered candidate you are then entitled to receive the following services, for up to 3 years or until you secure your new international school post (whether through Search Associates or not):
- unlimited advice, information and support from David Cope on all matters relating to international teaching
- the listing of your application in the Search Associates worldwide teacher database
- the opportunity to apply for a place at any Search Associates recruitment fair
- free access to information held by Search Associates on international schools and opportunities arising in them
When you accept a position and/or become no longer an actively job-seeking candidate, your application is removed from the Search Associates candidate database and stored in our electronic archive. You are notified by e-mail when this is done. Your supporting papers and references are also retained by the British branch of Search Associates for a period of at least 5 years.
To re-register at a later stage of your career, you simply need to contact David Cope, complete an updated online application and submit it to him, and ensure that all your supporting documents including references are updated appropriately.
Please note that the British branch reserves the right not to accept your application for registration (or re-registration) if David Cope considers for any reason that Search Associates cannot support your candidacy.
- Recruitment Fair attendance
- Please note that acceptance of a candidate's application to attend a specific fair is always at the discretion of the organiser of that fair.
- Before contacting any fair organiser directly about possible attendance at their fair, British branch candidates should always contact David Cope first about their plans.
- For British branch candidates whose application for a place at a Search Associates fair in either London or Dubai has been accepted, there are no fees due for participation in the fair.
- For each British branch candidate whose application for a place at a Search Associates fair in Asia, Australia, USA or Canada has been accepted, a fee of 50 US dollars will be due for participation in the fair, payable in advance to the fair organiser.
- Placement
Search Associates does not require any fee from a candidate for a successful placement. The Search Associates placement fee is charged only to the recruiting school.
- Professional consultations (optional)
If you are considering a move into international teaching - or a move from one international school to another - and would welcome some general information and advice at a personal meeting, you can arrange a professional consultation with David Cope at a mutually convenient time and place. Such consultations usually last between 45 and 60 minutes.
The professional consultation, for an individual or a couple, is an opportunity to review and discuss:
- the nature of international schools
- the range of opportunities available in them
- the different ways in which candidates can secure international school posts
- issues to be considered before accepting an international school post
- personal circumstances and career goals
- qualifications and professional experience
This service is entirely optional. It is distinct from all the services offered to candidates registered with Search Associates. Candidates who choose to have an individual consultation are under no obligation whatsoever to apply subsequently for registration with the British branch of Search Associates.
The fee payable to David Cope for a professional consultation is:
- £ 65 sterling for one individual candidate seeking a teaching post
- £ 95 sterling for a couple with both partners seeking teaching posts
- £ 75 sterling for one individual candidate seeking a senior management post
- £ 105 sterling for a couple with at least one of the partners seeking a senior management post
Notes on Payment of Consultation Fees
Cash or cheques / bank drafts in UK pounds sterling are always the preferred methods of payment. Cheques and bank drafts must be payable on a UK bank account and should ALWAYS be made payable to 'David Cope Limited' and either given to David Cope at the time of the consultation or sent by courier, or post (by airmail if from outside the UK) to:
